FAQ

What Is Christian Coaching?

What does a Christian coach do?

A Christian coach helps clients apply biblical wisdom, develop insight, overcome barriers, and pursue meaningful goals in areas such as personal growth, God-given purpose, navigating change, and fulfilling potential.

What is the difference between Christian Life Coaching and counseling?

Christian Coaching and counseling utilize similar skills but serve different purposes.  Licensed counselors are trained to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions and often help individuals process past wounds, trauma, or emotional challenges. Christian Coaching is not clinical care.  It is future-focused and helps clients gain clarity, apply biblical wisdom, and take purposeful action in areas such as personal growth, relationships, leadership, and calling.

Is life coaching biblical?

While the term “life coaching” is not found in Scripture, many of its principles are. The Bible encourages wisdom, accountability, encouragement, and intentional growth (Proverbs 27:17; Colossians 3:16). Christian Coaching applies these biblical principles in a structured, forward-focused way, helping individuals discern next steps and live in alignment with God’s truth.

How is Christian coaching different from secular self-help?

Christian Coaching is grounded in a biblical worldview and reliance on the Holy Spirit, rather than self-reliance alone. While secular self-help often emphasizes personal achievement or self-improvement, Christian Coaching focuses on transformation through God’s truth, helping clients grow in faith, wisdom, and obedience while pursuing meaningful goals.

How do I know if Christian Life Coaching is part of God’s vision for my life?

A desire for your own growth, openness to being refined, and a willingness to be trained and equipped can be a strong indicator that Christian Life Coaching may be a good fit. Many who are drawn to this work sense that God is not only calling them to support others, but also inviting them into deeper personal transformation and formation.  You may sense alignment with Christian Life Coaching if you have a genuine desire to encourage others and support growth. Many who feel drawn to coaching naturally listen well, value meaningful conversation, and want to help others move forward in their faith and life.

What is the difference between discipleship and coaching?

Discipleship and coaching both support spiritual growth but differ in approach. Discipleship often involves teaching, mentoring, and guiding someone in their faith based on shared beliefs and experience. Coaching is a structured, Christ-centered process that uses questions and reflection to help individuals discern, take ownership, and move forward.  Christian Coaching can complement discipleship by helping individuals apply what they are learning in practical, personalized ways.

Training & Certification

What does it mean that the Center for Christian Coaching is accredited?

Accreditation means that our program’s curriculum has undergone rigorous external inspection and evaluation by leading organizations in the coaching industry.  Our training programs meet the highest standards of ethics, competency, and professionalism.  We are accredited by both the ICF and CCNI, and our instructors all have coaching credentials from those organizations.

Is Christian coaching regulated?

Christian coaching is not a state-regulated profession like counseling or therapy. However, many training programs align with established coaching standards and ethical guidelines from professional organizations. Reputable programs provide structured training, ethical frameworks, and skill development to ensure coaches serve responsibly and effectively.

How long does Christian coaching certification take?

The length of certification depends on the program and pace of completion.  At the Center for Christian Coaching, the standard 25-week Christian Life Coach Certification typically takes about 6–9 months, depending on how quickly course requirements are completed. An accelerated option is also available, which can be completed in approximately 3–6 months.  For those pursuing ICF Level 1 Certification, additional time is required to complete mentor coaching, extending the timeline by about 3 more months.  Overall, the process is designed to provide both flexibility and sufficient time for learning, practice, and skill development.
